Rolex Comex Submariner Ref 5514 Circa 1977 Comex Issue 816
This is the Comex proto-type Submariner with its unique model number developed by Rolex and Comex to meet the growing demands of professional divers and the spectacular development of underwater exploration. The result was the development of the Rolex Seadweller.
The 5514 was not available to the public. It differs from the 5513 in that it has a Helium Escape Valve on the right side of the case, just like the Seadweller.
It has been fully serviced by Rolex UK, and is accompanied with a Letter of Authenticity signed by the General Manager of Rolex UK who personally verified this watch with Rolex Geneva.

Rolex Comex Submariner Ref 5513 Circa 1970 Issue 119
The Rolex Comex Submainer Ref 5513 were the first prototypes to be tested by Comex, as they were specially assembled with a Helium Gas Valve (HGV) at the side of the case at the 9 o clock position.
To solve the problem during decompression, where often the crystal and winding crowns would literally explode from the watches, Rolex and Comex developed the HGV and at first fitted it to a small batch of ref 5513 Rolex Submariners.
It was then fitted to a Special ref 5514 only made for Comex.

The dial is in superb condition for a watch that has been used for diving expedition for the last 20 years. It has some slight dis-colouring at the 6 o clock near the botton of the dial, not visible to the naked eye.
Also has its original domed glass, which is some damage around the edges, but i have left it as is, and it will be up to the buyer to decide if a new glass is needed. It is a fresh watch never been on the market and that is important as these wathes are getting to be impossible to locate.
This particular one has superb provenance, as listed below.
I, Marc BALSSA, was a diving monitor in charge for a diving center in Martinique, French West Indies in the Caribbean.
When I met in 1983 a Chief Diver of Comex with whom I became friendly, I were fascinated by his watch and he decided to please me and to give the watch to me.
In 1984, I was the first diver to dive on the "TAMAYA" a wreck on 90 meters deep in Saint PIERRE bay, one of the wrecks after the irruption of the mountain peeled in 1902. I am the discoverer of this wreck that Cousteau sought during years. And so this watch made this premiere dive.
At the time of the arrival of Calypso a few months later, the captain of the boat, Mr FALCO wanted to make a diving with a submarine on this wreck and he followed me with its submarine and me with my diving suit and my Rolex.
I had create a Video Production Company of underwater movies and I have dive several times all aroud the world always accompanied by this watch: Maldives, Philipinnes, Australia, Japan, America of the south and the north, without forgetting all the Caribbean, in the Bahamas. I filmed dolphins, lamentins, Sperm Whales.
This watch made more than 2000 divings and has a quite beautiful story.
